History

Named for a steep cliff near town, Rocky Mount was first settled in 1760, and originally was two adjacent villages, Rocky Mount and Mount Pleasant. By 1873, Rocky Mount has incorporated Mount Pleasant and the current city boundaries were created.

Blue Ridge Parkway

At the heart of historic downtown Rocky Mount sits the Farmer’s Market at Citizen Square. Open six days a week, it features a variety of fresh produce, and baked goods, honey, jams, and jellies as well as arts and crafts, plants and fresh cut flowers.
